Yasmina Ramzy

Yasmina Ramzy is a visionary, pioneer and a highly acclaimed choreographer committed to the presentation of Raqs Sharqi as high art. Since 1981, she has performed over 10,000, times often for royalty and heads of state and throughout the Middle East. Yasmina has had the unique priviledge of performing for several years in Syria with the famous master musicians of Allepo. She created her unique way of teaching Middle Eastern dance and has done so in over 60 cities on five continents. She founded Arabesque Dance Company and Orchestra, Arabesque Academy, the International Bellydance Conference of Canada (IBCC) and the Bellydance Blossom Festival.

Yasmina received her key training from leading masters in Egypt and Syria including Aida Nour of the Reda Troupe and Mohammed Khalil, director of the National Folklore Troupe of Egypt. Her unique and highly creative choreographies have won numerous awards and commissioned by many dance ensembles internationally including the Bellydance Superstars. Yasmina has produced nine performance and seven instructional DVDs as well as seven CDs. She wrote the “Ask Yasmina” column in the world’s largest online Bellydance magazine which is translated into several languages as well as several other publications and continues to write her own blog. As a mentor to many, she is well known for revealing the authentic, organic structure of Mid East dance and its relationship to Arabian music.

Amel Farag

Born and raised in Egypt, Amel developed her love of dance ever since she could first walk. The love of all forms of art and dance has been in her family through generations in ballet, cello, Raqs Sharqi, tar (Egyptian frame drum), and contemporary dance. Amel has been a Raqs Sharqi artist for over 15 years. Eight of those years she trained at Arabesque Canada with many of its teachers. Amel teaches annually at the Sweat Equity Fitness Conference and has been a resident teacher at Arabesque Canada for 2 years where she also is director of Baladi Cats performing dance ensemble.

Her contributions to the dance community have been as Co-coordinator of the Bellydance Blossom Festival where had opportunities to translate for and learn from Dina Talaat, Camelia Masreya and Mohamed Salah. She is a founding member of the Arabesque Folklore Troupe and with the troupe, she has performed at Carrassauga representing Egypt, at special events for The Nile Association, Canadian Egyptian Club, Canadian Arab Orchestra, Egyptian Coptic Festival, Yalla Barra Stage at Gay Pride, International Stage at the Canadian National Exhibition and many more events featuring the arts and culture of the Middle East. Amel’s passion for Raqs Sharqi and experience in bootcamp style workouts helps her to energize and inspire others to connect with their body in a soulful and enjoyable way.

Leanna

In 2006 Leanna started studying Oriental Dance with local teachers in Hamilton/Toronto. She has also learned from many International instructors such as Mahmoud Reda, Aida Nour, Tito Seif and Randa Kamel. Over the years, Leanna has had many memorable dance experiences such as playing a bellydancer on the TV show Reign.

As lead dancer of Arabesque Dance Company, Leanna has performed in the Cirque du Soleil production of the Opening Ceremony of the Pan-Am Games, in the Arabesque production of Sawah (2014), the International Stage at the CNE (2016- 2018) and Dance Ontario Dance Weekend (2014-2018). Leanna also directs Belladance in Hamilton and performs regularly as a soloist with the Arabesque Entertainment Agency in Toronto and Hamilton.

Alaina Osborne

Alaina is a Toronto-based dance artist who began training in ballet, jazz and contemporary at the age of four. In 2013, she joined Arabesque alumni Ishra Blanco’s Middle Eastern and fusion dance troupe, Invoketress. A year later, she began studying Bollywood dance with various instructors, including noted artist Paromita Kar. At the 2017 Hamilton International Bellydance Competition, Alaina received multiple awards for original Raqs Sharqi and Bollywood choreographies, including Judge’s Choice, selected by esteemed dancer Arabesque alumni Anjelica Scannura.

Alaina shared the stage with Reda Troupe soloist Mohamed Salah and recording artists such as Sean Paul, Akon and Karl Wolf. In 2018, Alaina studied in Egypt for the first time with her instructor and Arabesque alumni Melissa Gamal.  Currently, Alaina performs as a lead dancer of Invoketress, Arabesque Dance Company and as a professional soloist for Arabesque Entertainment Agency. She is also an instructor of both Raqs Sharqi and Bollywood dance at Arabesque Academy.

Earthshaker Experience Teachers

Members of the Arabesque Earthshakers, Deb, Sarah, Shelina and Jennifer, invite you to express your inner Earthshaker with them. Rotating the teachers, each class features a very shot segment of one of their bodacious choreographies by Yasmina Ramzy in which you learn the technique, transitions, emotions, nuances, characters and most importantly the Earthshaker attitude. Non-stop laughter in every Earthshaker gathering.
